Phase 3: Wearin’ ‘er Down (Bobby’s Side)

So, after that date went down like it did, I went home with my tail between my legs.  I was beat up.  I walked into the 3 bedroom townhouse that we were renting while my parents home was being built and my mother looked at me and let out a little giggle.  I could have died.  Here’s the woman who is supposed to come along side of me with fresh-baked cookies and a glass of 2% milk when I’m down and out, but no, not my mom.  She likes to kick ‘ya when you’re down.  (My mom’s the best mom in the entire earth, but this is how I felt at the time).  She said, “She gave you the friend speech, didn’t she?” I didn’t answer.  I was ready to give in and move on to blonder pastures, but then my mom said, “This is good for you.  I think she’s the right one for you.” I couldn’t believe my ears!  How could she say that?  Didn’t she know that I’ve just pulled out all the stops and I fell flat on my face?  I mean, what more of a sign did I need?  But then she said, “Bobby, you’re not used to working for your dates, you need to learn some humility.  This is good for you.” See, I was a blond stud in my college days.  I know you can’t tell it now, but I was.  A natural blond with blue eyes that could melt a nuclear reactor… at least that was what I was told.

Anyway, after much prayer and fasting (ok, fine, I snuck candy bars and Pepsi every chance I could, leave me alone) I decided to keep up the persuit.  I kept asking her to the movies and such.  Finally, it happened.  We went to see the wildly romantic and always a dating classic, “Mighty Ducks 2”.  Her hand was on the arm rest next to me.  It was about 6 inches away from my leg!  I couldn’t believe it!  It was a dream come true!  It was there so I took it.  I reached out and grabbed her hand.  It was everything that I hoped it would be.  Soft, smooth, not too sweaty… ahhh… perfection.  And I had arrived.
