Raining turns to Flooding!

   Posted by: Bobby    in Uncategorized

Well, you can keep an eye HERE for more updates, but the rains and floods are getting worse by the minute. I’ve never in my life seen rain and floods like this. Stores are closed and the ones that remained open get a foot of water every time a car drives by! Major intersections are blocked by stalled cars, causing major traffic issues. I couldn’t get a better video of the floods, but this video is of Huong, one of our GVI staff members going back to the office with some things we dropped off for her. At one point in the day, the knee-deep water you see here was waist deep! We did not make it to the orphanage this morning because of the flooding, and we’ll see if we can make it tomorrow. But the weather says it’s supposed to rain the entire time we are here. Start praying for us now! At this point we’ll be lucky if we make it up to Sapa!

Rainy Hanoi Morning

   Posted by: Bobby    in Uncategorized

It rained HARD all night long. It’s still coming down in waves. Slept good (up at 2am, though… we’ll see how I transition). This video was taken from the roof of my hotel this morning, gorgeous view of the lake!

In Hanoi!

   Posted by: Bobby    in Uncategorized

We made it to Hanoi without a hitch (well, except for the guy 3 rows in front of me on the last leg of the trip losing his lunch. No worries, he made it into the barf bad… all 3 times). It’s currently 3:30pm here (3:30am CST) and my brain is screaming, “GO TO BED!!!” But I know better. Tonight, we are going to see a friend put on a jazz concert at the art conservatory here in Hanoi… should be a blast! (The video below is just a test to see if I can upload my videos here easily).

On the Road Again

   Posted by: Bobby    in Uncategorized

I have a busy few weeks ahead. I leave tomorrow night (October 28) for Vietnam and don’t come home until November 9th. Then, I’m home for two days, hop back on a plane and speak at the Missional Leaders Conference in Colorado Springs. So, basically, I’m gone for the next three weeks.

Thank goodness for Skype!

I bought a cool little toy the other day that I’m taking with me on this trip, the Flip camera. I’m going to have FUN with this thing (but I don’t think my travel mates are going to be as happy about it as I am). I plan on uploading some video of my trip while I’m gone here, so stay tuned. Internet connections in Hanoi and especially in the Lao Cai province can be a bit elusive, but when I catch a WiFi, I’ll upload all I can.

Pray for a safe trip! And pray Ren keeps her sanity while I’m gone!

Advent Conspiracy

   Posted by: Bobby    in Uncategorized

Our friends over at Imago Dei in Portland, Oregon started something several years ago called “Advent Conspiracy.” It is now an international movement and I would encourage each family who reads this little ‘o blog to do the same… our family is. Watch this and then tell me if you accept the challenge or not. Also, think about your church. Do you think they would do something like this? Why or why not?

Busy Next Three Months!

   Posted by: Bobby    in Uncategorized

I was looking at my calendar for the next three months this week and things are going to be even more busy that usual! I leave for Vietnam toward the end of this month for 10 days, come home, get to re-coup from jet lag for 3 days, then get back on a plane, fly to Denver, speak at a Missional Leaders Conference, come home, then Thanksgiving (and all the hubub of the holidays), the prep for another conference in January (hosting… which is the worst!), the FINALLY some much need R&R at home in Colorado for Christmas! WHEW! And in the meantime, I start a new semester of school while in Vietnam, Bryce has honor choir concerts, Kyla has gymnastics, and the twins are busy being 2!

Pray, pray hard!

But, truth be told, I love being this busy! Keeps me out of trouble… some.

Got To Meet Erwin McManus… Finally!

   Posted by: Bobby    in Uncategorized

After 3 years of Bob Roberts telling me he’ll introduce me to Erwin McManus, one of my personal heroes, it finally happened this morning! Here’s a pic to prove it!

If you’re thinking, “Gee, I’m not really feeling any of this stuff the government is talking about. It must not be real.” Then you are sadly mistaken. Read this article.
